Online Session!

Due to current circumstances, this session of Creating Music with Technology will be offered entirely online. You’ll meet weekly at class time online using Zoom conferencing software. In our online format, you’ll still be able to interact with your instructor, and they’ll be able to give you valuable individualized feedback. All resources, music, handouts, & class work will be distributed digitally.

Description:

Have you wondered how people use computers to write music? Ever want to create your own digital music composition? In this class we will learn the basics of creating digital music using techniques such as sequencing, sound synthesis, looping and sampling. We will learn about different styles of digital/electronic music, as well as performing acoustic performances with digital tracks. You will have the opportunity to create your own compositions using the discussed techniques. Throughout the class sessions you will work on several projects, and you will choose two to present in our final class showcase.

This will be a hands-on class where you will learn new skills and immediately apply them. Each student should bring a laptop with the latest version of the Chrome browser installed.

Previous Experience:

Basic knowledge of music fundamentals (rhythm, pitch, basic notation). Comfortable with basic computer skills (web browsing, using apps/games etc).
