Online Session!

Due to current circumstances, this session of Intro to Improvisation will be offered entirely online. You’ll meet weekly at class time online using Zoom conferencing software. In our online format, you’ll still be able to interact with your instructor, and they’ll be able to give you valuable individualized feedback. All resources, music, handouts, & class work will be distributed digitally.

Description:

Always wanted to improvise but were never sure how to get started? This class is for you! Students of this course will develop the ability to confidently and freely create flowing, honest, and original musical ideas in real time. We will emphasize thoughtful experimentation, good practice habits, and the development of a strong foundation of knowledge that will allow you to effectively recognize musical patterns and explore rhythm & harmony. Use your improvisational skills to accompany a singer, play in a band, perform a beautiful solo, and even compose your own music!

This course is for adult musicians of all skill levels and all instruments — whether you’re an expert musician with considerable technical skill or at the beginning of your musical journey.

Previous Experience:

Students should have basic comfort on their instrument or vocal range. The ability to read sheet music is not required, but basic knowledge of chords and music theory would be helpful.
