Description:

Come make music with other young musicians! Students will perform with two different ensembles learning the process of collaborating with other musicians including concepts like: teamwork, balance, group rehearsals, improvising, and more. Students will learn at least two pieces, one in a small ensemble, and another in our large full ensemble to share at the end of the week. For example, a percussion student would learn a piece in percussion ensemble alongside other young percussionists, and also participate in our full ensemble. Students will work on a variety of styles of music across genres for a fun, music-filled week!

 

This is a half-day in-person camp. Capacity is limited. 

 

All students will perform and impress family and friends at our Final Showcase on Saturday, July 16th at 10:30 AM.

Safety Protocols:

In order to have safe and fun week, we’re requiring all Little Mission Camp Students to be fully vaccinated against Covid-19. You will be asked to email us a scan/photo of your child’s vaccination card upon enrolling. Masks required in accordance with the most up-to-date local guidance from San Francisco DPH. Wind players should use a special winds mask like this.

Previous Experience:

Students should have at least 2 years prior instruction on their instrument. 

Placement Audition:

A brief placement audition is required for enrollment in Little Mission Band Camp. Auditions are only to help us gauge current ability and assign parts and music appropriate for age and prior experience.

Audition Requirements:

Upon enrolling, students should submit an audition video containing:

• A brief introduction. (“Hi, I’m Bob & I play the saxophone! The pieces I will be playing are . . .”)
• Two brief, contrasting, solo excerpts of your choice.
  • Excerpts should showcase ability in expression, articulation, dynamics, rhythm, and tuning.
  • Percussionists should perform excerpts on two contrasting instruments to showcase versatility (drum kit, snare, mallets, accessory percussion, etc.).
• Total length of your audition video should not exceed 5 minutes in length.
  • Video taken on a phone or mobile device is completely fine – nothing fancy. 😉
• Deadline for video submission: Monday, July 4th, 2022
  • Submit your video via email or cloud service (GoogleDrive, Dropbox, iCloud, etc.). 

*Students who have taken this camp before do not need to audition.

Camp Showcase:

*Session 6 is the Final Showcase! Student drop-off and warm-ups start at 9:30 AM. Family and friends welcome to an in-person showcase starting at 10:30 AM!

This camp is for students entering Grades 4 and up. Students will be broken into appropriate age groups during camp.

• Their instrument.
• A 3-ring binder for music.
• A snack for our midday break. 
• A refillable water bottle. 

Extended Care:

Extended care is not available for this half-day camp.
