Little Mission Jam Band – Kids’ Class: Winter/Spring 2023

Little Mission Jam Band: Kids’ Class

Session:

Winter/Spring 2023

Description:

What could be more fun than jamming out together with your fellow musician friends!? Learning and practicing music can sometimes be a very solitary experience, with lots of time spent practicing on your own. So it’s always a valuable experience for young musicians to take the instrumental skills they’re learning on their own and combine forces with others. Our Little Mission Jam band will play our own arrangements of tunes from a variety of styles and genres. Since our ensemble is ever changing and unique, there’s no limit to the kinds of music we can explore together!

Safety Protocols:

In order to have safe and productive rehearsals, we’re requiring all Little Mission Jam Band members to wear masks. Wind players should use a special winds mask like this

Previous Experience:

Students should have at least 2 years prior private study on their given instrument and be comfortable reading music.

Audition Requirements:

A brief placement audition is required to assess the playing levels of students enrolled. Upon enrolling, students should submit (via email) an audition video containing:

  • A brief introduction. (“Hi, I’m Bob & I play the saxophone! The pieces I will be playing are . . .”)
  • Two brief, contrasting, solo excerpts of your choice.
    • Excerpts should showcase ability in expression, articulation, dynamics, rhythm, and tuning.
    • Percussionists should perform excerpts on two contrasting instruments to showcase versatility (drum kit, snare, mallets, accessory percussion, etc.).
  • Total length of your audition video should not exceed 5 minutes in length.
