Online Session!

Due to current circumstances, this session of Writing Your Own Music will be offered entirely online. You’ll meet weekly at class time online using Zoom conferencing software. In our online format, you’ll still be able to interact with your instructor, and they’ll be able to give you valuable individualized feedback. All resources, music, handouts, & class work will be distributed digitally.

Description:

Writing your own music can be one of the most rewarding experiences you’ll ever have. If you’re drawn to writing poetry, musical composition, or you simply want to get to know your favorite instrument in a deeper way, this class is for you. Whether you’ve never written a song before, or you’ve been struggling to do it for years this class will teach you the skills you need to express yourself through the art of melody writing.

Learning to write music is the perfect way to find and develop your own voice as a musician, and build your self confidence as a writer and performer. All genres of music are welcomed and encouraged for exploration including instrumental. Classes will be tailored to suit each student’s strengths and needs, and students can expect to leave this course having written at least two pieces of original music.

Previous Experience:

Students should have basic comfort on their instrument or vocal range. The ability to read sheet music is not required, but basic knowledge of chords would be helpful.
